Hello! Welcome to my site.
First things first. Deltarat? What does that mean? It’s simple really. It was a nickname I was given by a workmate many years ago. Being from the Mississippi Delta, I feel like it fits. I bought the domain years ago thinking I may decide to do something with it someday and here we are! I’m a creative person and this site will serve as an outlet for me. If I can entertain and inspire others along the way, awesome!
There are several areas of creativity that I’m focusing on here. Writing, photography, and board games, (including board game design) for now but other areas of interest may be added in the future. There is also a miscellaneous area for me to blog about anything else I choose to share.
Here’s a little about some of the creative interests I’ll be writing about.
Writing
I’ve always loved creative writing and world-building. I’m an avid reader. One of my favorite writers is Elmore Leonard. I’m also a fan of the Star Wars expanded universe, (now known as “Legends”) books. I think I read Shadows of the Empire around once per year.
I also have a self-published series available on Amazon called Crash Wagon. It’s a 5-book series, each book a short novella, roughly 20,000 words or 100 pages each. As of this writing, the first three books are available. I plan on blogging about writing the final two books.
Photography
I remember having a Kodak 110 camera when I was around eight or nine years old. I’ve still got some photos that I took with it when I was a kid. I’ve got some shots of a trip to Boston I took with my cousins. I have photos from Fenway Park at a Red Sox game. I also got a shot of the bar, Cheers made famous by the 80’s TV show.
When I got older, I got a Minolta SLR and shot rolls and rolls of film. I eventually enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography mail course. The instructor assigned to review my photos was one of the photographers assigned to photograph the Queen of England as well as the rest of the royal family.
Presently, I shoot with Nikon DSLRs and I’m even moving into the world of Nikon Mirrorless DSLRs. I have a Nikon Z6 and I will be posting more about it and other photography tips in the photography blog.
Board Games
Board games have been the most recent hobby I’ve gotten into. There’s just nothing like gathering around a table with friends and playing a board or card game. I’ll be reviewing games in an attempt to turn others onto the hobby. I believe there is a game out there for everyone. You just have to find it.
My love of board games goes beyond just playing them. I study the design of them. The different mechanisms that make the game work. What makes it fun? What kind of fun does the game cause? I love figuring out how they work and how they were designed. As a result, I have several game designs circling through my head. Again, this will be a place where I can blog about my ideas and progress.
A Place For Inspiration
I hope you find some of this interesting. I also hope that some of the things I blog about may inspire other creative people. Creatives inspire each other. It’s what fuels us.
The site is new. There isn’t much here as of now, but it will grow. I hope you continue to come by and see what I’m up to.
